Glenmorgan, Queensland

The End of the Line (But Definitely Not the End of the Fun)

Ah, Glenmorgan. Blink and you might miss it—but you’d be kicking yourself if you did. Tucked away in Queensland’s Western Downs, this pint-sized outback gem is famously known as “The End of the Line.” But don’t worry—while the train may have stopped here, the good times definitely haven’t.

We pulled into Glenmorgan’s donation camp for what was meant to be a quick overnight stop… and instantly fell in love. It’s the kind of place that whispers, “Stay another night, you’ve got nowhere else to be,” and to be honest, we didn’t argue.

The Campground: Free(ish), Fancy(ish), and Flat-Out Fantastic

Okay, technically it’s a donation camp, so you can drop a few bucks in the box and feel like a legend. And for that small price of goodwill, you get:

POWER (yes, glorious 240V!)

Hot shower – like, a real one, not the “tepid dribble in a bucket” kind

Flushing toilets – no explanation needed

Dump point – for when your motorhome’s had one too many

Peace and quiet – the loudest noise here is probably your own kettle

It’s all parked behind the historic railway station, which is full of rustic outback charm and photo ops that scream “I’ve really gone bush now.” And it’s dog-friendly, so bring the fur kids—they’ll love the sniff factor.

All Aboard the History Train (That No Longer Runs)

While the train service no longer puffs its way through town, the old railway station still stands proud—as does the old gaol, which we promise you don’t have to stay in unless things get really out of hand at the pub.

Speaking of which…

Pub Grub & Local Legends

Word on the outback grapevine is the burgers from the End of the Line Café are worth writing home about—or at least worth loosening your belt for. And yep, they lived up to the hype. Juicy, beefy, and big enough to require two hands and a nap afterward.

The local pub is just up the road and oozes that classic small-town Aussie hospitality. Cold beers, warm smiles, and a yarn if you’re up for one.

The Myall Botanic Gardens

Now, before you scroll on thinking “botanic gardens aren’t my thing”—these ones are heritage-listedand packed with semi-arid native flora that’ll have you saying, “Oi, what’s that weird-looking plant?” more times than you thought possible. It’s a peaceful wander, and the perfect spot to convince yourself you’re into birdwatching now.

Monty’s Garage (Kinda)

So here’s the thing—Monty’s Garage Museum is now permanently closed (RIP, Monty’s). BUT you can still cast your eyes over a decent collection of old car and truck relics out front, like a graveyard of Aussie motoring history. It’s kinda like Mad Max meets Antiques Roadshow.

Insta-Worthy? You Bet.

If you’re into photography, this spot’s a little goldmine. Think: corrugated iron sheds, vintage railway signs, rusted-out trucks, and sunsets that’ll have your phone begging for more storage.

Should You Stop in Glenmorgan?

Absolutely.

It’s quiet, quirky, and full of character.

You’ll leave feeling more relaxed, slightly dustier, and maybe with a burger stain on your shirt.

And best of all? It won’t cost you an arm, a leg, or your last litre of diesel.

So if you’re heading through the Western Downs, don’t skip the End of the Line—because sometimes, that’s where the best adventures begin.

Ciao for now, cobbers!
