Gayndah, Queensland
Country Hospitality at its Best
If you’re rolling into Gayndah with your motorhome, caravan, or trusty old camper, the Gayndah Showground is the kind of stop that makes you want to stay “just one more night”… and then another. (We extended our stay 3 times!)
For just $20 a night, you get power, water, heaps of space, and a very laid-back rulebook – in fact, you can even let your grey water out onto the ground. That’s about as relaxed as camping gets!
And let’s talk about Kevin. Every good showground needs a caretaker, but Gayndah has a legend. Kevin will welcome you, give you a choice of sites (yes, you get to pick your patch of paradise), and make you feel like you’ve known him for years. He’s part host, part guide, part entertainer – and worth the $20 alone.
The showground is pet friendly, so your four-legged mate will love it too. With plenty of room to stretch out, you won’t feel crammed in, no matter how big your setup is.
Town Highlights
Just a stone’s throw away, Gayndah has all the essentials:
• IGA supermarket for your supplies
• Two fuel stations to keep you rolling
• One pub (because really, that’s all you need)
We stumbled into the Gayndah Pastry Café – Viet Food Restaurant and I had a life-changing moment… my very first BBQ Pork Banh Mi. Crunchy bread, juicy pork, fresh salad – honestly, I don’t know why no one told me about this sooner.
And the tables? Not your standard wobbly café tables – these are hand-carved works of art. You almost feel bad putting your plate down on them… almost.
For those who prefer a quick stop, Zonhaven Park offers free camping for up to 20 hours. It’s got a dump point and toilets, making it a handy pit stop before or after your showground stay.
Things to See and Do
Gayndah isn’t just a stopover – it’s a proper destination with plenty to explore
• The Big Orange – because every Aussie town needs a “big” something.
• Archer’s Lookout and McConnell Lookout – for sweeping views of the Burnett region.
• Ban Ban Springs – a scenic spot perfect for a picnic.
• Gayndah Museum and Information Centre – history, charm, and friendly locals ready to tell you more.
So, whether you’re chasing a powered site, a friendly yarn with Kevin, or the chance to tick another “Big Thing” off your list, the Gayndah Showground is the kind of place that turns a quick overnight stay into a full-blown holiday.
Ciao for now!
