Bowenville, Queensland

Bowenville Reserve. What a great find this turned out to be! With a maximum stay of 7 nights, that’s plenty of time to unwind. And the best part is, it’s absolutely FREE. As you would expect from a free camp ground, there was no water, power or dump point, but these facilities are located reasonably close by in Dalby, 24km away. There was, however, flushing toilets, a kids play area, covered seating, and general/recycling rubbish disposal.

The camp ground is immense. There’s no designated spots so choosing a perfect place away from other campers is easy. We had at least 20 metres between us and the nearest neighbour. Access was easy for our motorhome, with a well graded gravel road entering the site. A word of warning though – the soil here is very reactive and would quickly become a quagmire in the rain.

The picturesque Oakey Creek runs through the site and was an ideal place for kayaking, canoeing, fishing and even swimming with a rope swing for the adventurous. This would be a great location for group camping. There’s enough room for a game of cricket, or an egg and spoon race if that’s your thing.

If you are driving a motorhome with no tow car, we recommend visiting Dalby first to stock up on provisions, then you can relax and enjoy the peace and quiet that Bowenville Reserve offers.

So if you’re heading out this way and want a quiet, secluded spot away from regular caravan parks, give Bowenville Reserve a go.

Ciao for now
